Marv Kessler Rumors

For all the good times, Kessler’s tenure at Adelphi was shadowed by a wrenching episode. His star center, Marshall Williams, collapsed and died on the court during a January 1977 game against Southampton, a victim of ventricular fibrillation, a heart disorder. Kessler told his players they did not have to continue their season, but they did so in tribute to their teammate and won the rest of their games. “Every time someone made a good pass or good shot, or took a charge, they’d say to each other, ‘Marshall, Marshall,’ ” Kessler told The New York Times in 1987. “Sometimes on the bench, tears came to my eyes.”
