Monty Williams Rumors
Taylor Rooks: I’ve had a couple conversations with Chris Paul about how much he loves Monty Williams as a human. One of the most adored coaches in the league. Going to be exciting to watch these two team up again.
Cindy Westphal: At 4am I woke up with a splitting headache. I’ve never met Monty Williams before but found myself texting him at 5:15am to cancel his visit with Paul today. He immediately responded with “no worries.” All I could think was….oh great, I just woke up Coach Williams. I got back to him at 8am to say my horrible headache is gone and I’m feeling fine again….had no other symptoms….that it was more like a transient stress headache than a migraine, so if he still wants to visit this afternoon, come on by.
Cindy Westphal: Around 9am the doorbell rang. It was Monty….”Are you Cindy?” I told him yes. Then he did this amazing thing. He handed me two bags of stuff. He said, “This isn’t for Coach. It’s for you to take care of yourself.” Tears immediately filled my eyes as I imagined this wonderful man I’ve never met going up and down aisles in a store to pick things out just for me. Like a loving son would do for his mother.
Cindy Westphal: Monty left to go work out then returned later this afternoon as he said he would. I was taken by the fact I was sitting across the room from two Phoenix Suns head coaches of two entirely different generations and styles of play. Though their paths have crossed periodically in the past….because of no deep history together, other than reputation and mutual basketball friendships….we had the best time getting to know Monty better…..things like learning about his family and what he enjoys doing away from basketball in the off season. We talked about the Suns upcoming season and the great group of guys he gets to coach. And we talked about the faith we share in Christ and how He gets us through difficult times. Thank you, Monty, for how real and down to earth you are. It was an absolute honor to spend time with you today……cindy
“I’ll never forget Dario was kicking all of the bigs butts playing one-on-one against the bigs and Book was on the other end whipping up on the guards,” Phoenix Suns coach Monty Williams said. “So we brought them together and to watch Dario try to stop one of the best scorers in the world and the team just rally around him in those type of practices, you knew that we were going to give ourselves a chance to at least compete.”
