Nate Reinking Rumors
The addition of Sidney Lowe isn’t the only change the Cleveland Cavaliers have made to the coaching staff this offseason. Sources tell cleveland.com that assistant Dan Geriot is now head coach of the G League affiliate Cleveland Charge while Nate Reinking has been elevated to the Cavaliers’ coaching staff.
Tristan Thompson and Matthew Dellavedova, who are free agents, Andre Drummond, who has a player option, and Cedi Osman, who’s still overseas, will not be in attendance. Four G-Leaguers from the Canton Charge – along with their coach Nate Reinking – will play in the Bubble: Matt Mooney, Marques Bolden, Levi Randolph and two-way player, Dean Wade. Everyone but Randolph spent time with the parent club last year.
The 2016 NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers have promoted Larry Drew to Associate Head Coach on Head Coach Tyronn Lue’s staff. The Canton Charge, the Cavaliers exclusively owned and operated NBA Development League team, also promoted Nate Reinking to Head Coach. Reinking was formerly an Assistant Coach for the Charge.
Canton Charge assistant coach Nate Reinking is expected to be promoted to head coach for the upcoming 2016-17 season, multiple league sources tell D-League Digest. A Kent State alum, Reinking has been an assistant coach with the Charge since the 2013-14 season.
Finch does has some NBA talent at his disposal with Mensah-Bonsu and Portland Trail Blazers rookie Joel Freeland on the roster, but he started 38-year-old Nate Reinking at point guard because the Houston assistant feels he has no backcourt alternative. Said Reinking, a naturalized American, of trying to guard Kobe for stretches: “It was a dream come true. What can I say? I’m an old man. I was telling [Bryant], ‘Slow it down, I’m 38.’ He just laughed.”
