New Zealand Rumors
Kiwi NBA star Steven Adams will have one eye on the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, with not one but two of his sisters competing. With the Tokyo Olympics now just a week away, the New Zealand contingent are arriving in the Japanese capital ahead of the start of the games. Among them will be both Dame Valerie Adams and younger sister Lisa Adams.
Despite being in his NBA off-season with New Orleans Pelicans, 27-year-old Steven Adams will be supporting his older sisters from afar. “I’m definitely following her,” Steven Adams told Magic Talk of older sister Dame Valerie. “My other sister, Lisa, is also participating in the Paralympics. I’ll be watching those two very closely.”
Several other current and former NBA players also have ownership stakes with NBL teams. The Houston Rockets’ John Wall and Dante Exum (a Melbourne native) and former NBA players Zach Randolph, Al Harrington and Josh Childress are owners of South East Melbourne. Miami Heat guard Victor Oladipo and former NBA players Shawn Marion and Matt Walsh are part of the New Zealand Breakers’ ownership group. “Being a part of an ownership group is something I wanted to do, for sure,” Middleton said. “As a player it could be tough. But I realize the responsibilities I had wasn’t going to really affect my basketball career right now. But it’s something I think a lot of players are starting to trend towards is finding ways to invest their money, finding things to do with their money that can grow, and it’s something I’m interested in.”
Emiliano Carchia: Levi Randolph signed with the New Zealand Breakers in the Australia NBL League for the rest of this season, sources tell @Emiliano Carchia. The player has an NBA out clause in his contract.
Basketball New Zealand has withdrawn the Tall Blacks from the last-chance Olympic qualifying tournament in Serbia, meaning they won’t be going to Tokyo. BBNZ has cited travel costs and focusing on future international programmes as the reason for the Tall Blacks withdrawal.
“I’m a big Hobbit and Lord of the Rings fan, and can’t wait to see where that was filmed. I can pretty much name every line of each movie, so I’m looking forward to coming to New Zealand,” said Oladipo who was raised in Maryland as the son on two Nigerian immigrant parents.
