Peter Jok Rumors
Undrafted rookie Peter Jok agreed to a partitally guaranteed deal with the Phoenix Suns, according to a report from Chad Leistikow of Des Moines Register. A former Iowa alum, Jok played for the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Summer League, averaging 9 points and shooting 6 of 14 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range.
Whether Jok did enough to impress the pro personnel at the camp and improve his stock for the June draft isn’t known. What also isn’t known, at least to many NBA officials who attended the camp, is that Jok participated under some extenuating circumstances. After arriving in Chicago on Monday, he immediately hit the books and studied for four exams in anthropology, sports business, human development and Swahili. He took two tests on Tuesday, one on Wednesday and the final one on Thursday. It meant he was up early morning and going to bed late at night.
Peter Jok has entered his name into the NBA draft. But from the way Jok and Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery are talking, it doesn’t sound likely that the Hawkeyes’ junior sharpshooter will be turning pro this spring. It sounds as though Jok probably will be back with the Hawkeyes for his senior season. Just call this as a fact-finding mission. “For me, this whole process is for experience to see how it all works and then return to work on my game,’’ Jok said in a statement issued by the university’s sports information office Thursday.
