Rick Barry Rumors
Golden State legend Rick Barry likes the idea of the eight-time NBA All-Star joining Golden State, but there is a certain pending free agent the Hall of Famer wants to see in a Warriors uniform next season. “The guy that I’d like to see them get — it would be unbelievable — I love Serge Ibaka,” Barry said Thursday morning on KNBR’s “Murph & Mac” show. “He can shoot the 3, he can rebound, block shots. That would be a heckuva addition to this team.”
Justin Kubatko: Bam Adebayo (23 years, 71 days) is the second-youngest player to record at least 30 points and 10 rebounds in a win that clinched a trip to the NBA Finals. Only Rick Barry (23 years, 15 days) did so at a younger age.
Murray and Mitchell took the record away from Jerry West and John Havlicek, who, in fairness, had their own unbelievable shootout with slightly higher stakes at hand, in the 1969 Finals. The two Hall-of-Fame ball-handlers combined for 463 points in that series, 12 fewer than what Murray and Mitchell just put up. The other highest-scoring playoff series duos all likewise took place in the 1960s and ’70s – Bob McAdoo and Elvin Hayes in the 1975 conference semifinals (461 points), Elgin Baylor and Bob Pettit in the 1961 division finals (461 points) and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Rick Barry in the 1977 conference finals (450 points).
Justin Kubatko: Jamal Murray is just the fifth player in NBA postseason history – and the first since Michael Jordan in 1993 – to follow up a 50-point game with a 40-point game: * Jordan (3x) * Jerry West (2x) * Wilt Chamberlain * Rick Barry * Murray
