Steve Gansey Rumors
The Atlanta Hawks today announced their roster for the MGM Resorts NBA Summer League 2021 in Las Vegas, taking place Sunday, Aug. 8 through Tuesday, Aug. 17. Assistant Coach Matt Hill will serve as head coach of the Hawks’ summer league squad and will be assisted by Hawks’ assistant coaches Jamelle McMillan and Marlon Garnett, along with College Park SkyHawks Head Coach Steve Gansey.
Scott Agness: Atlanta Hawks’ G League affiliate, the Skyhawks, officially named Steve Gansey as head coach. He spent most of the last decade coaching the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. Here’s my story from a week ago: fieldhousefiles.substack.com/p/gansey-to-co…
Scott Agness: Steve Gansey — the former Mad Ants (and summer Pacers) head coach — is in Atlanta to finalize a deal to become the head coach of the Hawks’ G League team (College Park Skyhawks), league sources said. The job would reunite him with Nate McMillan.
Chris Kirschner: The Hawks have hired Steve Gansey as head coach of their G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks, @The Athletic has learned. Gansey was the head coach of the Fort Wayne Mad Ants from 2015-2020.
Steve Gansey is remaining coach of the Mad Ants at least through Nov. 1. Gansey, 34, the head coach since 2015, reached an agreement with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, who own and operate the G League’s Mad Ants. His contract was to expire Wednesday.
Gansey’s short-term plan is to scout players from afar with the hope he and the Pacers can reach an agreement for next season, a conversation that may not happen until after the NBA playoffs in October. “I can look at some other G League players and players who were on (two-way contracts) this year,” Gansey said. “You know, there are guys who have played overseas and I can do some scouting on some of these college guys and guys who are going to enter the draft here pretty soon.”
The Indiana Pacers announced Friday their rookie/free agent camp roster. Highlighting the roster are 2019 first-round pick Goga Bitadze, as well as returning players Aaron Holiday, Alize Johnson, and Edmond Sumner. Prior to departing for Las Vegas for Summer League, the Pacers will practice Monday through Thursday at the St. Vincent Center. Fort Wayne Mad Ants head coach Steve Gansey will serve as head coach of the Pacers Summer League team.
