Valencia Basket Rumors
Former Virginia center Mike Tobey hasn’t played in the NBA since a brief stint with Charlotte in 2017, but his strong play in the Olympics alongside Luka Dončić with Slovenia might have rekindled Tobey’s prospects for a return to the league. He turns 27 in October, has one season left on his contract with Valencia Basket in Spain and does possess a release clause that would allow for an NBA return. Yet I’m told it would take a guaranteed contract above the league minimum for Tobey to make the finances feasible for such a leap before this coming season.

The Washington Wizards announced today that they have named Johnny Rogers vice president of pro personnel. “Johnny brings tremendous global experience, vast NBA knowledge and great basketball relationships to our franchise,” said Wizards General Manager Tommy Sheppard. “He is universally respected as a player and executive.” Rogers comes to Washington after spending the last three seasons as director of pro personnel for the Los Angeles Clippers. In this new role, he will oversee NBA and NBA G League scouting as well as the team’s international scouting efforts. Prior to joining the Clippers, Rogers served as a scout for the Oklahoma City Thunder and Sports Director for Valencia Basket in Spain.
In case the right NBA offer doesn’t come along, De Colo could return to Europe and among a large number of interested clubs, he is expected to get calls from Spain as well, primarily Real Madrid. However, Valencia Basket holds his rights in Spain and the club director Paco Raga noted they don’t rule out anything and might try to equal the offer: “We have the rights of De Colo in the ACB and if we can assume Real Madrid offer, we don’t rule out to equal it. Why not. We don’t rule out any scenario and of course, we are not going to renounce the rights that remain belonging to us since he moved to the NBA in 2012. We will always defend the interests of the club. He is a top player, one of the best in Europe”, Raga told Las Provincias.
