Vincent Collet Rumors

Plenty of players and head coach Vincent Collet have talked about Embiid potentially joining Les Bleus with the 2023 FIBA World Cup approaching and the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris just around the corner as well. France’s play-caller added to the conversation previewing this summer’s squad and fits alongside super prospect Victor Wembanyama heading to his first major international tournament. “Victor can also play with him,” he talked about Embiid on Saturday’s edition of the French newspaper L’Equipe, “He is one of the top three players in the world. His presence would solidify our frontcourt, would make it even better.”

“Can too many quality players hurt? You can’t use everyone for thirty minutes, problems will arise, and players will need to accept respective roles,” added Collet referring to further options in the paint, including Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves, “Without neglecting difficulties, I prefer to deal with them, because I see more advantages than disadvantages.”
“Nothing is done for the moment, but I can’t wait,” Hayes concluded. National team manager Vincent Collet also said to L’Équipe that he is enthusiastic about the progress of the young playmaker and added that Killian Hayes “is clearly in his thoughts.”
Vincent Collet, who coaches Wembanyama’s club team Metropolitans 92 near Paris and the French national team, said the hype is normal and great for the French game. “It’s something you can’t really control, and it’s because of what happened two weeks ago in the U.S.,” he said, referring to Metropolitans 92’s two exhibition games against G League teams outside Las Vegas. “In general it’s a good thing for basketball, for our club and for the game. It shines a light on basketball, it attracts people.” Collet thinks that Wembanyama has enough mental strength to cope with the demands of the NBA, despite his young age.
Joel Embiid has two choices: the red, white and blue of the U.S., or the blue, white and red of France. An Olympic medal might hinge on his decision. France is still hopeful that Embiid — the reigning NBA scoring champion — will choose to wear its colors for the 2024 Paris Olympics even though he recently became an American citizen, national team coach Vincent Collet said Thursday.

Two weeks ago, Bosnia and Herzegovina got a great 96-90 victory against France in the 2023 FIBA World Cup European Qualifiers. Today, Vincent Collet’s team got its revenge, winning 68-81 with a great display by former Real Madrid teammates Guerschon Yabusele (15 p., 5 r.) and Thomas Heurtel (14 p., 7 r., 8 a.). French centers Rudy Gobert (11 p., 12 r.) and Vincent Poirier (9 p., 7 r.) were also helpful, just like Evan Fournier (14 p.). France goes up 3-1.

Christos Tsaltas: French national team head coach, Vincent Collet, on Joel Embiid: “When he is completely selectable, whether for reasons of papers or in terms of physical condition, I do not see why I would not select him. We have always, as much as possible, taken the best”. #eurobasket2022
